The adaptation of J.G. Ballard's High Rise has been stuck in development hell for years, but last year, Kill List director Ben Wheatley signed on to become the project's latest director.  The 1975 novel "takes place in a tower block, which is supposed to be a gleaming new, exciting and exotic home for its affluent residents, but ends up isolating and factionalizing them into all-out war, with the surface sophistication degenerating to primal savagery."  Today, Wheatley announced on his Twitter page that production will begin in June, and the film will star Tom Hiddleston. Hit the jump for more including a cool promo image Wheatley tweeted. In his tweet announcing the start date and Hiddleston as the lead, Wheatley also included this cool promo art by artist Jay Shaw: As for the style of the picture, we know that it will be a period piece [via io9]: We’ve gone back and Amy [Jump]‘s written a script that’s very close to the book. It’s set in 1975… it’s going to look like the 70s. It’s going to be very styled in that way. We’re looking at the Ridley Scott adverts of that period. It’s going to be modern in a way that the 70s looked. I continue to be more excited for this project.  I also continue to kick myself for not having read the novel yet.
